How Often Do I Need to Replace Brake Fluid?
The best possible way to find out when to replace your brake fluid is referring to your vehicle’s owner’s manual. As a general estimate, brake fluid should be replaced every two to three years, or every 45,000 miles.
Your vehicle’s brake fluid, or hydraulic fluid, can become dirty due to overuse after several years. As the components of brake fluid break down over time thanks to daily usage and/or excessive moisture, the contaminated brake fluid can significantly affect the performance of your brakes.
If you notice your brakes feel spongy or squishy when pressed, or your Chevy doesn’t stop as quickly as it used to, we highly recommend bringing your vehicle in for service. Having contaminated fluid in your brake system for too long can cause internal corrosion or rust on your brake lines, brake calipers and other aspects of your brakes, making for an even more expensive trip to the service center.
