Important Engine Noises to Listen Out For

Loud Banging – When you are driving down the road, your engine might have a sudden, loud bang happen. If this does occur, you might be dealing with a backfiring engine. Continuing to run it for long periods of time can greatly increase the likelihood of complete engine failure. If you hear this sound, immediately pull over as soon as safely possible and call the appropriate services to get your vehicle safely to our Service Department. 

Screeching / Squealing – This fairly unique sound often happens when your vehicle’s serpentine belt is either becoming worn out or loose. The serpentine belt handles many vital areas of your vehicle such as the alternator and the radiator fan. If any of these areas of your vehicle stop working, your engine runs a substantial risk of failure. The moment you start hearing the screech or squeal under the hood, call our service center to get your vehicle in for an appointment as soon as possible to get the belt tightened or replaced. 

Clicking – A noticeable clicking sound from the engine could mean that your vehicle is running low or is out of oil. This is a dangerous situation to operate your vehicle under, as oil is vital to peak engine function and longevity. After the first audible clicks, check your engine oil as soon as you can to determine oil levels. If they are below what is deemed to be safe and you keep a spare quart of oil in case of emergency, immediately fill up and then call our Service Center to get your vehicle in for a look over and fresh oil change.
