The Matchup: Value vs Inline-Six Power

Mazda’s newest CX-70 is the 2026 model, and Mazda has not announced a 2027. Chevrolet has not announced a 2027 gas Blazer either, so this is 2026 vs 2026.

Every CX-70 has AWD and an 8-speed automatic. The 3.3 Turbo makes 280 hp and 332 lb-ft on regular fuel, the Turbo S 340 hp and 369 lb-ft on premium, and the PHEV 323 hp with 32 miles of EPA-rated electric range. The Blazer has a standard 228-hp 2.0L turbo and an available 308-hp V6 on the RS, a 9-speed automatic, and FWD or AWD.

The CX-70 is 9.0 inches longer (200.8 vs 191.8 in.) and holds more cargo: 39.6 vs 30.5 cu ft behind the rear seat and 75.3 vs 64.2 maximum. Rear legroom is nearly identical: 39.6 inches in the Blazer and 39.4 in the CX-70.

The CX-70 Plug-In Hybrid

The CX-70 PHEV ($44,450) pairs a 2.5L engine with an electric motor for 323 hp, 32 miles of EPA-rated electric range and 61 MPGe. It tows 3,500 lbs, and Mazda covers its battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles. The gas Blazer has no hybrid; Chevrolet’s electric option is the Blazer EV, EPA-rated at up to 312 miles of range.

Reasons to Choose Each

Choose the Chevy Blazer if you want

  • A much lower price, with FWD or AWD
  • An available 308-hp V6 for 4,500-lb towing
  • Slightly more rear legroom
  • A shorter body that’s easier to park
  • Roadside assistance for 5 years/60,000 miles vs Mazda’s 3 years/36,000

Choose the Mazda CX-70 if you want

  • More power from an inline-six, up to 340 hp
  • 5,000-lb towing
  • More cargo space and standard AWD
  • A plug-in hybrid option
  • A head-up display and digital cluster on most trims

Interior and Technology

Chevy Blazer dashboard and touchscreen with red interior accents

The Blazer has a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on every trim, and the RS adds an 8-inch driver display, connected navigation and Bose audio. The CX-70 has a 12.3-inch center display whose touchscreen works only with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (wireless on 3.3 Turbo models, wired on the PHEV SC), a 12.3-inch digital cluster on all but the base Preferred and a head-up display on most trims.

Mazda’s i-Activsense is standard, including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Blind Spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Cruising and Traffic Support adds lane centering on the 3.3 Turbo Premium and above (not the PHEV); Mazda says it is not an automated driving system. The Blazer has Chevy Safety Assist plus Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Park Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert as standard, with Adaptive Cruise Control available. Neither offers hands-free driving. NHTSA rates both five stars overall, and IIHS named the 2026 CX-70 a 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+.

The Bottom Line

If you want inline-six power, 5,000-lb towing, more cargo space or a plug-in hybrid, the CX-70 justifies its higher price. If you want a well-equipped two-row SUV for thousands less with the 2.0L turbo, a footprint that’s easier to park and the option of a 308-hp V6 on the RS (from $45,250), the Blazer is the value choice.
