The Matchup: One Strong Engine vs Three Choices

Every 2026 Colorado gets a 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder with 310 hp and 430 lb-ft. The Ranger starts with a 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder rated at 270 hp and 310 lb-ft, offers a 2.7L twin-turbo V6 with 315 hp and 400 lb-ft on 4×4 XLT and Lariat trucks, and gives the Raptor a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with 405 hp and 430 lb-ft that requires premium fuel. The Colorado uses an 8-speed automatic; the Ranger uses a 10-speed.

Both trucks are crew cabs with a roughly 5-foot bed. The Colorado’s bed floor is longer (61.7 vs 59.6 inches), while Ford quotes more cargo volume (43.5 vs 41.9 cubic feet). 4×2 is the base drivetrain on lower trims of both trucks, so check the drivetrain on any truck you shop for Colorado winters.

Colorado ZR2 vs Ranger Raptor

Both are built for fast off-road driving, with front and rear locking differentials and 10.7 inches of ground clearance. The Raptor has the bigger engine, 405 hp versus 310, and FOX Live Valve shocks. The ZR2 answers with Multimatic DSSV dampers, the same 430 lb-ft of torque on regular fuel, more towing (6,000 vs 5,510 lbs) and a price about $7,000 lower. If you want even more clearance, the Colorado ZR2 Bison package adds 35-inch tires and 12.2 inches of ground clearance.

Reasons to Choose Each

Choose the Chevy Colorado if you want

  • More standard torque: 430 lb-ft on every trim
  • More towing and payload
  • A lower starting price
  • Big screens on every trim
  • A ZR2 that costs less than a Raptor and runs on regular fuel

Choose the Ford Ranger if you want

  • Better fuel economy
  • A 10-speed automatic
  • An available twin-turbo V6
  • The 405-hp Raptor
  • Slightly more bed volume

Interior and Technology

Every Colorado has an 11.3-inch touchscreen with Google built-in and an 11-inch digital driver display. The Ranger XL has a 10-inch screen and 8-inch cluster, and the Lariat and Raptor get 12-inch screens for both.

Standard safety favors the Colorado at the entry level: every Colorado gets automatic emergency braking, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Rear Park Assist, while the Ranger XL’s blind spot monitoring and full Lane-Keeping System are in an optional package. Adaptive cruise is standard on the Ranger Lariat and Raptor and available on the Colorado.

The Bottom Line

For most buyers, the Colorado delivers more for less: more torque, towing and payload at a lower price. The Ranger is the better pick if fuel economy is your top priority or you want the Raptor’s extra power. For trail driving around Colorado, compare a ZR2 and a Raptor back to back; the ZR2 gives up horsepower but saves you thousands.
