Chevy Colorado vs Nissan Frontier: Turbo Four vs V6
Last updated: October 14, 2026 | Emich Chevrolet, Lakewood | Specs from each manufacturer
The Chevy Colorado and Nissan Frontier make the same 310 horsepower but get there in very different ways: the Colorado with a turbocharged four-cylinder, the Frontier with a naturally aspirated 3.8L V6. That difference shows up in torque, towing and, at Colorado elevations, real-world power. Here is how the 2026 Colorado compares with the 2027 Frontier, the newest Frontier on sale.

Quick Verdict
Choose the Colorado for far more torque (430 vs 281 lb-ft), more towing (7,700 vs 7,150 lbs), more payload (2,046 vs 1,590 lbs), bigger standard screens and a more capable off-road flagship in the ZR2. Choose the Frontier for a lower entry price with the King Cab, a 6-foot bed, and standard adaptive cruise control.

The Matchup: Same Horsepower, Very Different Torque
The Colorado’s 2.7L TurboMax makes 310 hp and 430 lb-ft, with peak torque at 3,000 rpm. The Frontier’s 3.8L V6 also makes 310 hp but 281 lb-ft, with peak torque at 4,400 rpm. Nissan calls its V6 the biggest in the class and the only standard 310-hp V6; the Colorado matches that horsepower with a smaller turbocharged engine and adds 149 lb-ft of torque.
That matters on the Front Range. Naturally aspirated engines like the Frontier’s V6 give up a larger share of their power as elevation rises, while turbocharged engines hold their output better. If you tow over the passes or drive to the high country, the Colorado’s low-rpm torque is a real advantage. The Frontier offers more configurations, though: a King Cab, a Crew Cab, and 5- or 6-foot beds.
