Chevy Equinox vs Honda CR-V: 2027 Equinox vs 2027 CR-V Compared
Last updated: October 19, 2026 | Emich Chevrolet, Lakewood | Specs from each manufacturer
Shopping compact SUVs in Denver? The 2027 Chevy Equinox and 2027 Honda CR-V both seat five and offer all-wheel drive. The Equinox starts at a lower price and comes with larger standard screens. The CR-V answers with more cargo room, higher EPA ratings and a hybrid option the Equinox doesn’t offer. Here’s how the two compare on price, space, fuel economy, tech and safety, using each maker’s published figures.

Quick Verdict
The 2027 Equinox is the value pick. The LT starts at $29,300, $2,220 below the CR-V LX, and every Equinox has an 11.3-inch touchscreen, an 11-inch driver display, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and Blind Zone Steering Assist. The 2027 CR-V is the space and efficiency pick. It has 9.5 more cubic feet behind the rear seat, EPA ratings of 30 mpg combined as a gas model and 40 mpg as a hybrid, and a 5-star NHTSA overall rating. If you haul a lot or drive long distances, the CR-V earns its higher price. If you want a lower price and larger standard screens, start with the Equinox.

Equinox vs CR-V: How They Match Up
Price is the Equinox’s clearest edge. The LT FWD starts at $29,300 and the CR-V LX 2WD at $31,520. Chevrolet’s $1,995 destination charge is $445 higher than Honda’s $1,550, so with destination the gap is $1,775 ($31,295 vs $33,070). With AWD, the Equinox LT starts at $31,300 and the CR-V LX at $33,020 ($33,295 vs $34,570 with destination). The Equinox uses a 175-hp 1.5L turbo with an 8-speed automatic and up to 203 lb-ft of torque (AWD). The gas CR-V makes 190 hp and 179 lb-ft through a CVT.
The CR-V is the roomier SUV. Gas trims have 39.3 cu ft behind the rear seat and 76.5 cu ft with it folded, vs 29.8 and 63.5 cu ft in the Equinox. Rear legroom is 41.0 inches vs 39.9. The CR-V also wins on fuel. EPA rates the gas CR-V 2WD at 30 mpg combined and the Sport Hybrid 2WD at 40 mpg, vs 27 mpg for the Equinox FWD and 26 mpg for AWD.
Max towing is even for gas models. Both are rated up to 1,500 lbs: the Equinox needs AWD and proper equipment (FWD is rated 800 lbs), and Honda says towing requires accessory equipment. CR-V hybrids are rated 1,000 lbs. Ground clearance is close: 8.05 to 8.20 inches for the Equinox and 7.8 (2WD) or 8.2 inches (AWD) for the CR-V. On safety, NHTSA gives the 2027 CR-V a 5-star overall rating. It has not rated the 2027 Equinox yet, and the 2026 Equinox has no overall rating, though it earned 5 stars in side crash tests.

Want a Hybrid? CR-V Hybrid vs Gas Equinox
Chevrolet doesn’t offer a hybrid Equinox. If fuel economy is your priority, the CR-V Sport Hybrid starts at $36,030 (2WD) and is EPA rated at 40 mpg combined, or 37 mpg with AWD. That’s $6,730 more than an Equinox LT FWD before destination. Its hybrid system makes 204 hp, and Honda covers the high-voltage battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles.
Based on EPA combined ratings, the Equinox FWD uses about 37 gallons of fuel per 1,000 miles and the CR-V Sport Hybrid 2WD about 25. How quickly that difference covers the higher price depends on how far you drive. If you want an electrified Chevy in this size, the Equinox EV is a separate model; see our Chevy Equinox EV guide.
