Quick Verdict

Today, the 2027 F-350 out-tows the 2026 Silverado 3500 HD on paper: up to 28,000 lbs conventional and 38,000 lbs gooseneck (dually) vs 20,000 and 36,000 lbs, and its 6.7L High-Output diesel makes 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft. The Silverado 3500 HD counters with more gas-engine torque, a starting price $30 below the F-350 and a published 7,789-lb maximum payload for the dually (Ford advertises up to 7,900 lbs across its Super Duty lineup but doesn’t publish an F-350 figure). The 2027 Silverado HD, with its new Duramax 8.3L (555 hp, 1,230 lb-ft) matches the F-350’s 38,000-lb gooseneck rating when it arrives, though its conventional rating stays at up to 20,000 lbs.

The Matchup: One-Ton Towing Today and for 2027

Ford’s 2027 Super Duty went on sale in September 2026 with a standard 7.3L gas V8 (420 hp, 445 lb-ft) and an available 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke diesel (500 hp, 1,200 lb-ft), both with a 10-speed automatic. The 2026 Silverado 3500 HD has a standard 6.6L gas V8 (401 hp, 464 lb-ft) and an available Duramax 6.6L diesel (470 hp, 975 lb-ft) with an Allison 10-speed. Both trucks come in single-rear-wheel and dual-rear-wheel (dually) versions.

The biggest gap is conventional, or ball-hitch, towing. Ford rates the F-350 dually at up to 28,000 lbs conventional (Crew Cab, 4.10 axle) and the single-rear-wheel F-350 at up to 25,000 lbs, while the 2026 Silverado 3500 HD tops out at 20,000 lbs conventional. With a gooseneck the gap narrows to 38,000 lbs for the F-350 dually vs 36,000 lbs for the Silverado 3500 HD dually with the Max Trailering Package. Ford’s 40,000-lb headline rating applies to the F-450, not the F-350.

The 2027 Silverado HD, announced September 24, 2026, raises the Silverado’s gooseneck rating to 38,000 lbs (3500 HD dually, Max Trailering Package) and adds an available Duramax 8.3L (555 hp, 1,230 lb-ft), an upgraded 412-hp gas V8, electric power steering and larger brakes. It is expected at dealers beginning in late 2026, with pricing not yet announced.

Trailering Technology

Both trucks are loaded with towing tech. The Silverado HD offers up to 14 camera views from 8 cameras, Transparent Trailer View that lets you see through a compatible trailer (with an accessory camera), a Bed View Camera for lining up a fifth-wheel or gooseneck hitch, and an in-vehicle trailering app. Ford’s highlights include Pro Trailer Backup Assist, Pro Trailer Hitch Assist, Onboard Scales with Smart Hitch for tongue weight, and a 360-degree camera.

Reasons to Choose Each

Choose the Chevy Silverado 3500 HD if you want

  • More torque from the gas V8
  • Transparent Trailer View and up to 14 camera views
  • A published 7,789-lb max payload (dually; Ford lists no F-350-specific figure)
  • A 2026 truck in stock now with Duramax Customer Cash
  • The 2027 Duramax 8.3L and 38,000-lb gooseneck rating, coming late 2026

Choose the Ford F-350 if you want

  • The highest conventional towing in this matchup (28,000 lbs)
  • Higher gooseneck and fifth-wheel ratings (38,000 / 35,000 lbs)
  • The most diesel horsepower and torque on sale today
  • A bigger gas V8 (7.3L)
  • Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Onboard Scales

Interior and Technology

2026 Chevy Silverado HD interior with touchscreen and driver display

The Silverado 3500 HD gets a 13.4-inch touchscreen with Google built-in and a 12.3-inch driver display from the LT up, and a 7-inch screen on the WT. Ford’s 2027 F-350 offers an 8-inch screen on the XL and XLT and a 12-inch screen on the Lariat and Platinum, with a 12-inch digital cluster.

The Bottom Line

If you need the most conventional towing in a one-ton today, the F-350 dually is the leader on paper, and it holds a 2,000-lb gooseneck edge over the 2026 Silverado 3500 HD. If your trailer is a gooseneck under 36,000 lbs or a fifth-wheel under 32,000 lbs, a Silverado 3500 HD dually with the Duramax does the job with Chevy’s camera tech, and the 2027 Silverado HD matches Ford’s 38,000-lb gooseneck rating with more diesel torque.
