Chevy Silverado HD in Denver: 2026 2500 HD and 3500 HD Trims, Towing and Pricing
Last updated: October 14, 2026 | Emich Chevrolet, Lakewood | Serving Denver and the Colorado Front Range
When the trailer gets heavy, the Chevy Silverado HD takes over. The Silverado HD tows up to 36,000 pounds with a gooseneck hitch (3500 HD dually), offers a 975-lb-ft Duramax diesel, and carries up to 7,789 pounds of payload. This guide covers the 2026 Silverado HD trucks on Emich’s lot, including trims and pricing, engines, towing and payload, trailering tech, the ZR2 and Trail Boss, current offers and the 2027 Silverado HD with its new 8.3L Duramax.

Quick Answer
The 2026 Silverado 2500 HD starts at $46,200 and the 3500 HD at $47,400 (MSRP, plus a $2,795 destination charge). Both come with a 401-hp 6.6L gas V8, and every trim can be ordered with the 470-hp, 975-lb-ft Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel. Maximum towing is 36,000 lbs with a gooseneck hitch on a 3500 HD Duramax dually, and up to 20,000 lbs conventional. The 2027 Silverado HD, with a new 555-hp 8.3L Duramax and up to 38,000 lbs of towing, is due in late 2026. Emich’s in-stock HD trucks are 2026 4WD models, mostly 2500 HD crew cabs.

The Duramax diesel is available on every trim. On most crew cab 4WD trucks it adds $9,990 over the gas V8 ($11,915 on the 2500 HD Custom); for example, a 2500 HD LT Crew Cab Standard Bed 4WD is $59,495 with gas and $69,485 with the Duramax, including destination. The LTZ and High Country come only as crew cab 4WD trucks, the LT is 4WD only, and the ZR2 is offered only as a 2500 HD Crew Cab Standard Bed 4WD.
Gas V8 or Duramax Diesel?
| 2026 engine | Power | Transmission | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6.6L gas V8 (standard) | 401 hp / 464 lb-ft | 10-speed automatic | 3.73 rear axle; the lower-cost choice for moderate towing and plow or work duty |
| Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 | 470 hp / 975 lb-ft | Allison 10-speed automatic | 3.42 rear axle, exhaust brake and engine block heater; required for the highest tow ratings |
Sources: chevrolet.com and Build & Price. An Allison 10-speed with integrated power takeoff (PTO) is a $995 option with the Duramax.
For most fifth-wheel campers, horse trailers and heavy equipment, the Duramax is the right call. Its 975 lb-ft of torque arrives at 1,600 rpm, the exhaust brake helps control speed on long descents like the west side of the Eisenhower Tunnel, and turbocharging holds power at Colorado elevation far better than a gas V8. The gas 6.6L makes sense if you tow lighter or less often, plow snow, or want to save nearly $10,000 up front. Our Duramax diesel trucks guide covers the diesel lineup in more detail.
Silverado HD Towing and Payload
| 2026 model and engine | Max conventional | Max fifth-wheel / gooseneck |
|---|---|---|
| 2500 HD, 6.6L gas | 16,000 lbs | 18,700 lbs |
| 2500 HD, Duramax | 20,000 lbs (Max Trailering Package) | 22,050 lbs (Max Trailering Package) |
| 3500 HD, 6.6L gas | 18,700 lbs | 19,080 lbs |
| 3500 HD, Duramax | 20,000 lbs | 32,000 lbs fifth-wheel; 36,000 lbs gooseneck |
Sources: 2026 Chevrolet Trailering Guide, Chevrolet’s 2026 Silverado 2500 HD and 3500 HD towing charts, and Build & Price. The 36,000-lb rating requires a 3500 HD Regular Cab Long Bed WT 2WD dually with the Duramax and Max Trailering Package (35,500 lbs without the package). Maximum payload, per Build & Price, is 4,479 lbs for the 2500 HD, 5,289 lbs for the 3500 HD with single rear wheels and 7,789 lbs for the 3500 HD dually. chevrolet.com also cites 2500 HD ratings of 22,070 and 22,420 lbs, which do not appear in Chevrolet’s 2500 HD towing charts.
Chevrolet says every Silverado HD dually with the Duramax can pull more than 30,000 lbs. A Trailering Package with a 2.5-inch receiver and 4-pin and 7-pin connectors is standard, as is an integrated trailer brake controller. On the 2500 HD, the Max Trailering Package adds the 3500 HD frame, leaf springs and shocks, a 12-inch rear axle and gooseneck/fifth-wheel prep. Kingpin weight on a fifth-wheel or gooseneck should be 15 to 25 percent of the loaded trailer weight. To compare the HD with every other Chevy, see our Chevy towing capacity chart.

Cabs and Beds
The 2500 HD comes as a Regular Cab Long Bed, a Double Cab with a standard or long bed, or a Crew Cab with a standard or long bed. The 3500 HD comes as a Regular Cab or Double Cab Long Bed (single or dual rear wheels), a Crew Cab Standard Bed (single rear wheel) or a Crew Cab Long Bed (single or dual rear wheels). Box length is 82.25 inches for the standard bed and 98.27 inches for the long bed. Regular cabs seat three and double and crew cabs seat six.
The steel Durabed has 12 standard tie-downs rated at 500 lbs per corner and 83.5 cubic feet of cargo volume, which Chevrolet says is more than any competitor. The available six-function Multi-Flex Tailgate has a step rated for 375 lbs. Overall length runs from 235.5 to 266 inches, so measure your garage before you buy a crew cab long bed.

It comes standard with HD Surround Vision, the Bed View Camera, front and rear park assist and Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and its interior gets Strike Yellow accent stitching. A ZR2 Bison Edition, built with AEV, adds AEV steel bumpers, AEV skid plates and 18-inch AEV wheels. The ZR2 is rated for up to 18,500 lbs conventional with the Duramax.
The Trail Boss package, available on the LT and LTZ, adds the Z71 shocks and suspension, skid plates, blacked-out trim, 20-inch black wheels with BFGoodrich all-terrain tires and red recovery hooks. Other 2026 editions include the High Country Midnight Edition (black only), the Z71 Chrome Sport Edition and the Stars and Steel Special Edition, which includes the Max Trailering Package and Gooseneck/5th Wheel Prep Package.
Interior, Technology and Safety

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, a 15-inch head-up display is available in the Technology Package, and OnStar Basics is standard for eight years.
Safety. Every 2026 Silverado HD has Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert, a Following Distance Indicator, Lane Departure Warning and the HD Rear Vision Camera with Hitch Guidance. The ZR2 and High Country add front and rear park assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, the Safety Alert Seat, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert and HD Surround Vision.
Colors include Summit White, Black, Sterling Gray Metallic, Red Hot, Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Cypress Gray, with availability varying by trim.
The 2027 Silverado HD
GM unveiled the 2027 Silverado HD on September 24, 2026, and says it will start arriving at dealers in late 2026. The headline is an available all-new Duramax 8.3L turbo-diesel V8 with 555 hp and 1,230 lb-ft, which Chevrolet calls best in class, rated to tow up to 38,000 lbs with a gooseneck and up to 20,000 lbs conventional. The standard 6.6L gas V8 is upgraded to 412 hp and 472 lb-ft, and both engines use an Allison 10-speed.
- Electric power steering and electronic brake boost, both segment firsts according to GM
- Up to 14 camera views, an in-vehicle trailering app and available trailer tire pressure and temperature monitoring
- A new Terrain Mode with one-pedal off-road driving on the ZR2, plus larger Multimatic DSSV dampers and 35-inch mud-terrain tires
- Trims: WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country; pricing has not been announced
Unlike the redesigned 2027 Silverado 1500, the 2027 HD keeps a familiar look. Read more in our 2027 Silverado guide, or shop the 2026 HD trucks on our lot, which come with current offers.
