Last updated: October 14, 2026 | Emich Chevrolet, Lakewood | Specs from each manufacturer
The Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition are two long-running full-size, three-row SUVs, and they take different routes to the same job: Chevy with V8s and a diesel, Ford with a twin-turbo V6. Here is the 2027 Tahoe against the 2027 Expedition, Ford’s newest model, using each manufacturer’s published specs.

The 2027 Tahoe starts $2,420 lower, has more cargo space behind every row (25.5 vs 21.6 cu ft behind the third row), a larger 17.7-inch touchscreen and an available Duramax diesel rated at 24 mpg combined vs 18 for the Expedition.

The Matchup: V8s and Diesel vs Twin-Turbo V6
Ford’s 2027 Expedition uses a 3.5L EcoBoost twin-turbo V6 (400 hp, 480 lb-ft) as standard, with a 440-hp High-Output version on select models, and a 10-speed automatic. The 2027 Tahoe offers three engines: a standard 5.3L V8 (355 hp, 383 lb-ft), an available 6.2L V8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft; 433 hp in the RST Performance Edition) and an available 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six (305 hp, 495 lb-ft), all with a 10-speed automatic.
The Expedition tows more, up to 9,600 lbs with 4×4 and the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package vs 8,400 lbs for the Tahoe, and has 1.6 more inches of third-row legroom. The Tahoe has more room behind every row, a lower starting price and a far more efficient diesel option. Both offer hands-free highway driving: Super Cruise on the Tahoe, which works while towing a trailer, and BlueCruise on the Expedition.
Need more space? The long-wheelbase Expedition MAX (36.1 cu ft behind the third row) lines up against the Chevy Suburban (41.5 cu ft).
