The Matchup: Price and Space vs Power and Warranty

Kia’s website shows the 2026 EV6 with the note “Limited inventory available,” and Kia has not published 2027 EV6 pricing or specifications, so the 2026 is the newest EV6 it offers. The 2027 Equinox EV is the current model on chevrolet.com. Both have native NACS ports; 2026 Equinox EVs, still on dealer lots, use a CCS1 port and need an adapter for Tesla Superchargers.

Every Equinox EV has an 85 kWh battery, with 220 hp (FWD) or 300 hp and 355 lb-ft (AWD). The EV6 Light uses a 63.0 kWh battery and 167 hp; the Light Long Range, Wind and GT-Line use an 84.0 kWh battery with 225 hp in RWD form or 320 hp and 446 lb-ft with AWD, which adds $4,000 ($4,300 on the GT-Line). Kia quotes 0–60 mph in 5.0 seconds for AWD models; Chevrolet does not publish a 0–60 time.

The EV6 is lower and shorter (184.8 vs 190.6 in.) with a little more rear legroom (39.0 vs 38.0 in.), but the Equinox EV holds more: 26.4 cu ft behind the rear seat and 57.2 with it folded, vs 24.4 and 46.7. The EV6 is rated to tow up to 2,700 lbs, and Kia offers its $620 hitch on the Wind and GT-Line; the Equinox EV tows up to 1,500 lbs, with a factory hitch on the LT 2 and RS. Ground clearance is 6.4 inches for the Equinox EV vs 6.1 for the EV6.

Charging: Supercharger Access, Speed and Home

The 2027 Equinox EV and the EV6 both have a native NACS port for Tesla Superchargers; 2026 Equinox EVs need a $275 NACS DC adapter. Kia lists a NACS-to-CCS adapter as available for other networks; Chevrolet sells a CCS1 DC adapter for the Equinox EV ($299). Kia rates the EV6 at up to 240 kW (180 kW for the Light) and about 20 minutes from 10 to 80% on a 350 kW charger, based on its own testing. Chevrolet says the 2027 Equinox EV adds up to 80 miles of range in 10 minutes and lists 150 kW for the 2026 model.

At home, every Equinox EV comes with a Dual Level Charge Cord that plugs into a standard 120-volt outlet or, with its other end, a 240-volt NEMA 14-50 outlet at up to 7.7 kW. Its 11.5 kW onboard charger needs a professionally installed 48-amp charge station to reach full speed. The EV6 includes a dual-level 120V/240V portable cable and has a 10.9 kW onboard charger. The Equinox EV can back up a home with GM Energy hardware sold separately; the EV6 Wind and GT-Line have vehicle-to-load power outlets.

Hands-Free Driving: Super Cruise vs Highway Driving Assist 2

Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver assistance system, is available on the Equinox EV LT 2 and RS, not the LT 1. It comes in the $3,945 Active Safety Package 3, which requires Convenience Package II ($3,100 on the LT 2, $2,495 on the RS), so the real added cost is $7,045 on an LT 2 or $6,440 on an RS. Three years of OnStar One with Super Cruise are included; after that, GM says plans start at $39.99 a month. It also works hands-free while trailering, with lane changes disabled, and the driver must always pay attention. Kia offers Highway Driving Assist 2 on the EV6 Wind and GT-Line (Highway Driving Assist on Light trims), does not call it hands-free and lists no subscription for it.

Interior and Technology

Chevy Equinox EV dashboard and touchscreen

Every Equinox EV has a 17.7-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch driver display, and Chevrolet says the 17.7-inch screen is the largest among EVs in its class, based on its latest available competitive data. It runs Google built-in, which requires a service plan, and does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The EV6 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, and a head-up display on the GT-Line; the Equinox EV offers one on the LT 2 and RS.

Adaptive cruise control is standard on both. Every Equinox EV adds Chevy Safety Assist, Blind Zone Steering Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Braking; every EV6 has Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and Safe Exit Assist. NHTSA gives the 2026 EV6 five stars overall, and IIHS tested the 2026 EV6 without an award. NHTSA has not rated the 2027 Equinox EV yet; the 2026 Equinox EV earned five stars overall, and IIHS has not rated the Equinox EV.

The Bottom Line

Both reach 319 miles in their longest-range versions and plug straight into Tesla Superchargers. Kia notes limited EV6 inventory, so check availability; for Chevrolet, see every trim in our Chevy Equinox EV guide.

If more AWD power, 240 kW DC charging, towing or the longer warranty matter more to you, the EV6 is the better fit. If you want a lower price and more cargo space, the Equinox EV is the smarter buy, and the LT 2 and RS offer hands-free Super Cruise.
