Chevy Equinox EV vs Toyota bZ: 2027 Equinox EV vs 2027 bZ Compared
Last updated: October 19, 2026 | Emich Chevrolet, Lakewood | Specs from each manufacturer
The 2027 Chevy Equinox EV and Toyota bZ (formerly the bZ4X) are two-row electric SUVs with seating for five, native NACS charge ports and starting prices just $15 apart. The Equinox EV goes much farther at that price and offers available hands-free driving on the LT 2 and RS; the bZ is more efficient, has more ground clearance and makes more power with AWD. Here is the 2027 Equinox EV against the 2027 bZ, using each manufacturer’s published specs.

Quick Verdict
The 2027 bZ XLE FWD starts $15 below the 2027 Equinox EV ($34,980 vs $34,995), but it is rated at 236 miles vs 319; the 314-mile XLE FWD Plus costs $37,980. With AWD, the Equinox EV goes farther (307 vs 288 miles). It also has more rear legroom, a bigger screen and available Super Cruise on the LT 2 and RS. The bZ is more efficient (up to 131 vs 108 MPGe), has 8.1 inches of ground clearance vs 6.4, makes 338 hp with AWD vs 300 and includes CCS1 and J1772 charging adapters.

The Matchup: Range and Room vs Efficiency and Clearance
Toyota renamed the bZ4X the bZ, and toyota.com now shows the 2027 model, priced in Toyota’s full-line price list updated October 2, 2026. The 2027 Equinox EV is the current model on chevrolet.com. Both have native NACS ports; 2026 Equinox EVs, still on dealer lots, use a CCS1 port and need an adapter for Tesla Superchargers.
Every Equinox EV has an 85 kWh battery, with 220 hp (FWD) or 300 hp (AWD). The bZ XLE FWD uses a 57.7 kWh battery and 165 hp; every other bZ has a 74.7 kWh battery, with 221 hp in FWD form or 338 hp with AWD, which costs $2,000. Toyota estimates 0–60 mph in 4.9 seconds for AWD models; Chevrolet does not publish a 0–60 time.
The Equinox EV is longer (190.6 vs 184.6 in.), with a longer wheelbase and more rear legroom (38.0 vs 35.3 in.). The bZ has more cargo space behind the rear seat (27.7 vs 26.4 cu ft) unless it has JBL audio (25.8), while the Equinox EV holds slightly more with the seats folded (57.2 vs 56.9 cu ft, or 55.0 with JBL). The bZ has 8.1 inches of ground clearance on every grade vs 6.4, and AWD models add X-MODE with snow and mud settings. The Equinox EV tows up to 1,500 lbs (factory hitch on LT 2 and RS); Toyota does not list a tow rating for the 2027 bZ on toyota.com or in its product information.

Toyota does not list a tow rating for the 2027 bZ in the materials reviewed, and neither maker says whether its battery figure is usable capacity. Chevrolet lists a 150 kW DC peak for the 2026 Equinox EV but no kW figure for 2027. Bold marks the better figure.

Charging: NACS, Adapters and Home
The 2027 Equinox EV and the bZ both have a native NACS port for Tesla Superchargers (2026 Equinox EVs need an adapter), and both makers list a 150 kW DC peak (Chevrolet’s figure is for the 2026 model). Toyota says the bZ charges from 10 to 80% in about 30 minutes in ideal conditions; Chevrolet says the 2027 Equinox EV adds up to 80 miles of range in 10 minutes. The bZ includes CCS1 and J1772 adapters, while Chevrolet sells both for the Equinox EV ($398 as a package).
At home, every Equinox EV comes with a Dual Level Charge Cord that plugs into a standard 120-volt outlet or, with its other end, a 240-volt NEMA 14-50 outlet at up to 7.7 kW. Its 11.5 kW onboard charger needs a professionally installed 48-amp charge station to reach full speed. The bZ has an 11 kW onboard charger, and Toyota quotes about 7 hours for a 10–100% Level 2 charge on every grade but the XLE FWD (about 5.5 hours). The Equinox EV can back up a home with GM Energy hardware sold separately; the bZ has a 120-volt, 1,500-watt outlet in the cargo area.
Hands-Free Driving: Super Cruise vs Traffic Jam Assist
Super Cruise, GM’s hands-free driver assistance system, is available on the Equinox EV LT 2 and RS, not the LT 1. It comes in the $3,945 Active Safety Package 3, which requires Convenience Package II ($3,100 on the LT 2, $2,495 on the RS), so the real added cost is $7,045 on an LT 2 or $6,440 on an RS. Three years of OnStar One with Super Cruise are included; after that, GM says plans start at $39.99 a month. It also works hands-free while trailering, with lane changes disabled, and the driver must always pay attention. The bZ Limited offers Traffic Jam Assist, which Toyota says provides driver-supervised control at speeds under 25 mph on limited-access highways and requires a Drive Connect trial or subscription. Toyota does not describe it as hands-free.

Interior and Technology

Every Equinox EV has a 17.7-inch touchscreen and an 11-inch driver display, and Chevrolet says the 17.7-inch screen is the largest among EVs in its class, based on its latest available competitive data. It runs Google built-in, which requires a service plan, and does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The bZ has a 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch top-mounted driver display and available JBL audio on the Limited.
Adaptive cruise control is standard on both: Chevy Safety Assist plus Adaptive Cruise Control on every Equinox EV, and Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 with Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control on every bZ. NHTSA has not given the 2027 bZ an overall rating yet (it earned four stars for rollover), and IIHS tested the 2026 bZ without an award. NHTSA has not rated the 2027 Equinox EV yet; the 2026 Equinox EV earned five stars overall, and IIHS has not rated the Equinox EV.
The Bottom Line
Both start near $35,000 and plug straight into Tesla Superchargers, but they spend that money differently. See every Equinox EV trim in our Chevy Equinox EV guide.
If efficiency, ground clearance, AWD power or included charging adapters matter more to you, the bZ is the better choice. If you want more range for the money and more rear-seat room, the Equinox EV is the stronger pick, and the LT 2 and RS offer hands-free Super Cruise.
