The Matchup: Two Rows vs Three Rows

Kia has not priced a 2027 EV9, so the 2026 is the newest on sale. It starts at $54,900 plus $1,645 destination for the RWD Light, and AWD comes only on the Wind ($63,900), Land and GT-Line. The 2027 Blazer EV starts at $45,000 plus $1,795 destination, with AWD available on the LT and RS for $3,000. Emich’s current stock is the 2026 Blazer EV LT, which uses a CCS1 charge port and needs an adapter for Tesla Superchargers.

The EV9 is 197.2 inches long on a 122.0-inch wheelbase vs 192.2 and 121.8 for the Blazer EV, so their footprints are close, but the EV9 is taller (68.9 to 70.1 vs 65.0 in.) and holds more: 43.5 cu ft behind the second row vs 25.5, 81.7 behind the front seats vs 59.1, and 20.2 behind the third row, which has 29.9 to 32.0 inches of legroom. The Blazer EV has more front legroom (44.2 vs 41.4 in.).

The Blazer EV LT and RS use an 85 kWh battery with 220 hp (FWD) or 300 hp (AWD), and the SS has 615 hp with Wide Open Watts. The EV9 uses a 76.1 or 99.8 kWh battery with 201 to 215 hp (RWD) or 379 hp (AWD). The Blazer EV is more efficient (104 vs 89 MPGe for each one’s top rating), and the 2027 Blazer EV and 2026 EV9 both have native NACS ports for Tesla Superchargers.

Two Rows or Three: Which Fits You

Choose the EV9 if you regularly carry more than five people or want cargo space behind a third row. The Light, Light Long Range and Wind seat seven with a second-row bench, and the Land and GT-Line seat six with captain’s chairs (seven is available on the Land); the third row has 29.9 to 32.0 inches of legroom. The EV9 also has standard vehicle-to-load power and up to 5,000 lbs of towing, and IIHS named it a 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+.

Choose the Blazer EV if five seats are enough. It costs $9,900 less than the least expensive EV9 and $15,900 less with AWD, is more efficient, has more ground clearance and offers Super Cruise as an option on the LT and RS. Its 25.5 cu ft behind the rear seat is less than the EV9’s 43.5, so measure your gear if cargo space matters.

Hands-Free Driving: Super Cruise vs Highway Driving Assist 2

Super Cruise is hands-free driver assistance, and drivers must still pay attention to the road. It is standard on the SS. On the LT it adds $6,290 in total (the $3,795 Super Cruise Package plus the required $2,495 Comfort and Convenience Package), and on the RS $5,190 (with the required $1,395 RS Convenience and Driver Confidence Package); the package also adds Bose audio and Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist. The plan is included for three years, then GM charges for a plan starting at $39.99 a month. On the LT and RS, Super Cruise also works while towing, with its lane-change features turned off.

Every EV9 has Kia’s Highway Driving Assist 2 with Lane Following Assist 2, which uses hands-on detection to monitor the steering wheel, so it is not a hands-free system. Kia lists no subscription for it.

Reasons to Choose Each

Choose the Chevy Blazer EV if you want

  • A much lower price: $45,000 vs $54,900, or $48,000 vs $63,900 with AWD
  • More range than any EV9 (312 vs 305 miles) and higher efficiency
  • More ground clearance in 2WD or AWD form
  • Available hands-free Super Cruise (standard on SS)
  • The 615-hp SS performance model

Choose the Kia EV9 if you want

  • A third row, with seating for six or seven
  • Much more cargo space (81.7 vs 59.1 cu ft)
  • More AWD power (379 vs 300 hp)
  • Up to 5,000 lbs of towing (Land, GT-Line)
  • A longer warranty and an IIHS 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+ award

Interior and Technology

Chevy Blazer EV dashboard and touchscreen

Every Blazer EV has a 17.7-inch touchscreen with Google built-in, which requires a service plan, and an 11-inch driver display. Chevrolet does not list Apple CarPlay or Android Auto for the Blazer EV. The EV9 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch driver display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 12-inch head-up display on the GT-Line. The Blazer EV’s head-up display comes in an RS package and is standard on the SS.

Chevy Safety Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and HD Surround Vision are standard on the Blazer EV; Kia Drive Wise is standard on the EV9, with a 360-degree camera on the Wind, Land and GT-Line. NHTSA rates the 2026 EV9 five stars overall, and IIHS named it a 2026 TOP SAFETY PICK+. NHTSA gave the 2026 Blazer EV AWD five stars overall and has not rated the 2027 Blazer EV yet; the Blazer EV has no IIHS award.

The Bottom Line

If you need a third row, more cargo room or 5,000-lb towing, the EV9 is the right choice, and its price reflects its size. If five seats are enough, the Blazer EV LT starts $9,900 lower and goes farther on a charge (312 miles vs 305 for the EV9 Light Long Range and 230 for the Light); even with the Super Cruise Package and its required package, an LT costs less than any EV9.
